There are a million blog posts about this today, but I believe I will direct you to http://www.fromtherink.com/ because I really like the way James Mirtle covers news (though the local story is here http://www.wivb.com/dpp/news/local/news_wivb_buffalo_Local_NHL_star_arrested_09082009)
Apparently at about 4:30 on Sunday morning, Kane and his cousin beat up a 62-year-old cab driver because he didn't have the right amount of change to give them (he was 20 cents short).
This is really bad news for the Blackhaws. For me, they were a young, exciting team that was filled with positives and they were easily my favourite team in the West. If this proves true then it will certainly impact the way that I, and probably many others, view both Kane and the Blackhawks organization.
There is still an investigation into the incident obviously, so I certainly hope that there is more to the story than this. For now, both Kane and his cousin have been charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services.
One last article to finish us off, because I prefer local reporting to the outside view, is this blog (http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-kaplan-chicago-sports/2009/08/patrick-kane-arrested-in-buffalo.html) which I include mainly because it really gives you a feeling of how surprised and disappointed hockey fans in Chicago must really be.
Oh yeah, apparently Kane entered a not-guilty plea so hopefully this all works itself out, but the damage to his reputation is already done.
One last thing that I just thought of though. Patrick Kane is 20. The legal drinking age is 21. If alcohol was involved, this just gets worse for him.
